Past the halfway mark

Hi all!

Time is flying! We have been here for some time now...and the end of the trip is quickly approaching! Tomorrow afternoon we have will visit the Asociación Galbán to learn a little about their work, and on Friday we have an optional excursion to the Río Sella (my sense is that all of the students want to go, even though it is optional). I'll share some pictures of both of those mini-adventures later in the week.

Classes are going well. In literature class we are now looking at some more contemporary works about 20th century Spain (José Ortega y Gasset, Federico García Lorca, coming up we have Ana María Matute and Gloria Fuertes); Jessica's grammar class continues reinforce some of the technical aspects of the various language advances the students are making through their conversations with host families and friends; Aline's culture class had a food day that garnered a lot of excitement last week; and Juan's linguistics class has been working on phonetics.

Two additional items of note for this week: yesterday we had a small party to celebrate two students who have birthdays this week (we have a couple more birthdays in these final weeks...), and four of our students were featured on a regional program today! It was such a fun experience - the students were asked to share some about what we've been up to, their experiences with their host families, impressions of Oviedo and Asturias, cultural differences and similarities. They did so well! I have a couple photos of them in action, and here is a link to their segment in case you want to check it out.
