Our looooooooooooooong journey has finally come to an end!

*Cue the Asturian bagpipes* 

      

        

Where last year, we were met with hot, arid weather in Madrid, this year Central and Northern Spain have had an unusual cold and rainy season! The brown and dry landscapes were replaced by lots of green and lovely flowers. BUT, this green is not the green of Asturias 😉. We crossed the mountains of Asturias during our last hour and a half stretch of our 5+ hour bus ride from Madrid. The mountains are breathtaking. Pictures always fail to capture their grandeur, but all the same, their beauty is evident.

Here we were in sight of the mountains! These connect to the Peaks of Europe, which go on to connect to the Pyrenees Mountain Range. 

Juan, like the students, had never traveled to this part of Spain. It was amazing!

All our preparations have paid of tremendously and now all our students are safe and sound (and most likely still asleep) with their respective host families. I’m not sure who was more nervous or excited, the students or their host parents! We instructors would like to give a HUGE thank you to Mariví la Maravillosa, our amazing On Site Coordinator who very meticulously vetted and matched our students to their host families. We are very excited for classes to come on Monday and to see how everyone is holding up to the hard but rewarding transition.
